Tagging Positions
Tagging is a must-know feature of Wingman to help you get the most out of your tracking. You can use tags to easily organize, analyze, and filter your positions.
Create/Apply a Tag
Tags can be created directly in the Wingman Open Positions page.
- Find the position that you wish to tag by clicking the + icon next to an Underlying to expand the list of positions.
- Click the Tag icon next to the position you want to tag. The tag selector popup will appear.
- Type in the name of the tag that you want to create, then press Enter, or select an existing one. See Tag Examples/Ideas below for inspiration on what sort of tags you may want to create.
- The tag will appear in the list of tags applied to that position. Positions can have multiple tags, so create and apply as many as you want.
Remove a Tag
If you added a tag by mistake, you can easily remove it.
- Click the Tag icon next to the position you want to change.
- Click the x icon on the tag that you want to remove.
Edit a Tag
Tags can be renamed anytime after creation.
- Click on Settings on the right side of the navigation bar - or you can click here to go to the Settings page.
- Click Position Tags.
- Click Edit next to the tag you want to rename. The tag name will now be a text box you can edit.
- Input the new name and click Save. The tag has now is renamed universally.
Delete a Tag
Right next to the Edit button above, you can also delete a tag entirely. This will remove it from every position in your account. Be sure about this, as you can't undo it!
Tag Examples/Ideas
Tagging positions can significantly help you analyze, organize, and filter positions. Here are some ideas for tags:
- Custom strategy/setup name ("MA Cross", "Earnings", "Double Top", etc.)
- Source of trade idea ("John's Newsletter", "Trader Joe", "Barron's", etc.)
- Management strategy ("rolled up", "delta hedged", etc.)
These are your custom buckets that will help you figure out where your performance is better or worse in multiple dimensions. It also makes it easier to search your open and closed positions if you're trying to find previous trades of that kind.
Analyze Using Tags
To analyze positions based on tags, you can either:
1. Search the tag in the top filter menu, which will filter the entire page to only analyze positions that contain that tag.
Begin typing a tag name in the Tags text field. Wingman applies the filter immediately and re-calculates values and charts. In the example below, all the values have been recalculated to only include positions with that tag.
You can remove a filter by clicking the Reset Filter button at the top in the big yellow bar.
2. Or check out the "Tag Performance" table to see metrics broken down by tags to easily compare them.
Filter Positions Using Tags
Tags can be used to quickly filter positions on either the Open Positions or Closed Positions pages.
To filter positions based on tags, begin typing a tag name in the Tags textfield on either the Open Positions or Closed Positions page. Wingman will begin filtering positions as you type.
To remove the filter and show all underlyings/positions, click the Reset Filter button.
This filter menu works the same way on each page of the site, but with slight variation in the fields you can filter.
Tagging is one of the most popular features of Wingman, and for good reason, so run wild with them!
